wouldn't it be extremely odd for JRM to not be wearing some sort of brace/sling to support and stabilize this serious injury?
I'm certainly no medical professional, so maybe he does have a torn labrum or something of that nature and it's perfectly normal for the injured person to not wear any sort of brace for support/stability.
