First, I am not at all comparing this virus to the Swine Flu, I am fully aware of the differences.
However, I do wonder, do you think we'd have shut down parts of society (not to this extent) had the media covered the Swine Flu the same way? I think we would have certainly treated it differently.
For instance, we still get posters starting threads saying "COVID-19 case confirmed in X County" as if it's somehow newsworthy. Another example, every death of a sub-80 year old is immediately national news.
