I am having as hard a time accepting the fact that the Vols are not going to the SECCG as I am accepting who is going. I am so sick of Florida and now their coach, who I won't even name, that I want to gag. I did watch the first half of yesterday's LSU game but was so nervous that I went cold turkey and didn't watch the second half and told my wife to call me on the intercom phone if LSU lost. I didn't have a good feeling about the game. She watched upstairs and I was downstairs and when I heard that phone ring, my heart sank.
I'm glad I didn't watch the second half as I would have come unglued with how badly LSU played. So Florida will now go to their 12th SECCG in 25 years, virtually half the time.
We should have been in the SECCG last year and this year and we go neither. So Butch in four years can't get us there once and I give him a pass for the first 2 years as he built the talent level up. But Florida gets a new coach and in his first 2 years gets them there twice.
Even in a year when they play 5 SEC road games, they still have the best record in the east.
And next year Florida only has 3 true SEC road games and they are against Missouri, Kentucky and South Carolina. Good luck Vols trying to win it next year.
Florida was very fortunate to win yesterday but the Vols were fortunate at Georgia but we lost this thing at South Carolina with a terrible offensive performance.
Never in 50 years have I seen the injury situation this bad. Even yesterday, it seemed like every 3 or 4 plays there was a Vol not getting up, all on defense. Terrible luck there.
I do hope we can go to the Sugar Bowl, which would be a great consolation prize, but lots of things have to go our way, not the least of which is beating Vandy who looked great last night. A loss to Vandy would really put a downer on a year that has already been marked by the disappointment of not getting to the SECCG.
I am not a knee jerk fan who wants to fire coaches at the drop of a hat but for the first time, I have my doubts about Butch. This season has been disturbing from the start even though we started 5-0. We have just played many poor quarters this year. I am now as unoptimistic about our future as I was optimistic on the morning of Sept. 3rd this year. 2 more wins this year would help soothe hurt feelings.
Sorry for the rambling of this so please don't flame away as nobody has to agree with anything I have said. These are just my personal thoughts on a frustrating Sunday morning and I'm sure there are other frustrated Vol fans who have their own set of particular frustrations.
