The format is not set up to award the championship to best team for a complete season…it is set up to award the championship to the team that plays the best for a certain period of time.
March Madness is also set up in a similar fashion.
IMHO the only playoffs that are truly set up to reward the best teams over a complete season are the NBA and NHL.
CFB used to be that way but the scheduling and introduction of the playoffs have diluted the results in some cases over the past few years.
I don’t have a problem with either option but fans just need to recognize the set ups.
