Listening to Coach Mathews' show this morning and he mentioned it was going to be interesting to see which players made the 70 man traveling roster. For the opener we can take as many guys as we want but when we head to the Swamp In week 4 we will be limited to 70 spots. For the first time in quite a few years, there will be some good football players not making the trip. I know injuries during the first 3 weeks will sort things out a little but it's still interesting to think about.
Here is my stab at the 70 man travel roster:
QB: 3
RB: 4 (think either Kelly or Young won't make the roster)
TE: 4 (Stocstill plays FB for us when needed so will be interesting to see if the coaches take him or Jakob as the 4th TE)
WR: 10 (if Preston is eligible, then Blanc doesn't make the bus, IMO)
OL: 12 (even with Jackson out we have 14 scholarship OL. I think Raulerson & Boulware don't make the bus)
That's 33 total Offensive guys.
DE: 8 (counting Weatherd in here. Leaves Butcher out)
DT: 5 (Saulsberry not making it due to injury and Picuo at home)
LB: 9 (this leaves Bryant at home. Includes all 3 Freshman and Jumper)
CB: 6 (counts Gaulden & Abernathy. Leaves Miller at home)
S: 5 (includes Max Arnold and leaves Griffin at home)
That's 33 total defensive guys and 66 total at this point. Leaves 4 spots for specialist.
K: 1 (makes me nervous going on the road with 1 kicker. We are a rolled ankle from disaster)
P: 1 (same as for kicker. Can we afford to take multiple kickers and punters? Can we afford not to?)
S: 1 (Lovingood is left at home)
H: 1 (can somebody besides Ashford hold? If so, might leave him at home and take a guy like Bullock as an emergency kicker and punter)
