Based on @Jesse_Simonton's interview it sounds like Beard has spoken with Sheffield (a few times at least), but both Sheffield and Scurry highlight that Coach Azzanni was who they had a relationship with. I think it's pretty telling, if true, that Beard has only spoken to Sheffield a few times and didn't seem to have spoken to Scurry all that much either. Sure, both guys are 2019 kids, but they are also in-state kids. And in-state commits at that. You would think they'd be on the weekly call list, to say the least?
I think it all comes down to fit and what Beard and Scott are looking for. Scurry has height and speed, and Sheffield seems to have speed and shiftiness, but are either takes when compared to the talent in South Florida that Beard and Scott seem so fond of?
Honestly, I haven't been impressed by either prospect. Scurry is tall and out jumps the competition he plays; Sheffield is faster than everyone he plays but I didn't see him shake a competent defender out of his shoes. Neither strikes me as the second coming of Randy Moss, though it is extremely early to evaluate either of them seeing how they are just about to be juniors in HS and this is the year you see legit talent class-wide, IMO.
I think the fact that Scurry said South Carolina is the one showing him the most love currently, and Sheffield said his other offers lately have been Indiana and Cincinnati can't be ignored either. It could be a timing issue with those offers or it could be something more credible at this point in their respective careers. Nonetheless, it's wayyy to early to accurately judge their talent upon graduation.
It's a long way till signing day 2019, but with Kevin Beard running the show now, you have to wonder whether or not Scurry and Sheffield may not be as high a priority.
