It's not about Freeze to me. It's that our Head Football Coach can't hire the guys he wants

Freeze, Lindsey, Enos...whoever. Our Head Football Coach is in charge of the football program. He has a strategy and a plan for what has to happen in order for our program to succeed. I don't really care about Freeze. I think there's probably a couple dozen people out there that could be very successful. But it doesn't matter what I think. Or you. Or Phil. Or Charlie Anderson. It matters what Pruitt thinks. He was hired to do the job and if he thinks it's Freeze, then it's Freeze.

I'm pissed about what this says about our football program and our administration and where we still seem to be stuck in the mud. And even more, it tells me that Pruitt will be gone in 3 years (or less). Either he's successful in spite of our administration and moves on to somewhere he doesn't have to fight these dumb battles or he's handcuffed by our administration and he's the latest in the long line of failures in our football program. Either way, we're looking at another head coaching search in a few years.

Some will say I'm being dramatic. Whatever. I guess we've been dramatic the last 10 years. When you keep doing the same thing over and over and expect different results, that's the definition of insanity...and I guess we're all insane.

This is way out there but Pruitt seems like the kind of guy who doesn't give a damn. This is a far out there hypothetical but Pruitt really has UT by the balls. He could tell Fulmer "if I can't hire my guy, I quit". Can you imagine how bad of a spot that would put UT in? Pruitt can find a job faster than most of us can run to the toilet after a night of trying to drink ourselves to death after UT coaching searches. Hell, Maryland would probably try to hire him. But what would that do to UT? As if people didn't think our job was toxic enough, we would have a first time HC quit and leave a bunch of money on the table because he doesn't think we're committed and he can get the job done here. The timing would crush us. I'm almost at the point where I wish he would do that to teach these people a lesson once and for all...except I don't think the message would ever get through.

Anyway, this has been going on for awhile. I thought maybe this had been fixed with Fulmer at the helm and the new BOT configuration. I guess not. If not Freeze, I'm sure we'll hire someone very competent and they can do a good job. But this will linger. And if they don't fix it quick, we'll be in this same position again soon regardless of how good a coach Pruitt is or isn't.
