I have been a sunshine pumper for CBJ without waver until now. I'm not saying it's nessarly time to fire him and make a change, at HC anyway.
Our program needs stability at the leadership position right now and a lame duck AD is anything but that at this point. It's now time to hire our next AD and let him start doing his job.
Like I said, it's not nessarly time to make a coaching change yet. It is time for our new AD to secretly put out feelers and see if any of the most proven, top quality coaches out there would be interested in our job if it did come open. I'm not talking about up and comers. I'm talking about proven winners. Coaches like Patterson from Washington, Petreno form Louisville and there are a few others out there like that I can't think of off the top of my head right now. If one of them would take the job, then it's time to make the change. If not then, stick with CBJ.
He may not be winning championships, but he is not destroying our program. Our program will sustain with him at the helm. We will no doubt be a 8-10 win team year in and year out because of his ability to recruit. I just don't think he will ever be the kind of coach on Saturday that it takes to win NC's.
We have a top 10 program and one that should be able to compete year in and year out for SEC championships. We should never under achieve here. We also shouldn't let a coach keep us from competing at the level we should be.
I know a lot of coaches told us no before CBJ got here, but we are at a better spot now and I think this would be a job some good coach would take. All we would need is one to be interested. If not, we don't have to make the change this year.
I hope CBJ makes the nessary changes in the offseason and in a couple years we look back and see this year as our last growing pain and I was wrong and CBJ is become a elite coach. I hate it as much as anyone and am one of the last to see it with him, but I just don't know if CBJ will ever be able to get it done in Saturdays. I hope I'm just upset and that has clouded my judgement this week and hope like hell I'm wrong. Either way something needs to change and it all starts with hiring our next AD and doing it sooner rather than later. Go Vols!!!
