Basing this on geography, conference competition, tradition, current head coaches, facilities etc.
Teir 1: I personally think these schools have too many advantages for Tennessee to overcome. It's really unfair with location, programs, head coaches, tradition etc.
1. Alabama - no explanation
2. Ohio state - no explanation
3. USC - no explanation
4. FSU - no explanation
5. Michigan - no explanation
6. LSU - no explanation
Teir 2: these schools need the right coach to get it done it's much easier than teir 3 schools.
7. Texas - Mack Brown consistently recruited at a high level and I happen to think that machine is about to get cranked way up.
8. Georgia - state has way too much talent and although they compete with many schools Kirby seems relentless. Good history, play an inconsistent auburn team each year. Easy path to Atlanta.
9. Florida - Urban and Muschamp signed top 5 classes with ease. Talent everywhere.
Teir 3: I see all these schools with defiencies and can not rank them in any order. These schools have a lot of advantages over most schools and should never finish outside the top 20. These schools have the capability of landing in the top 5 but not consistently.
10 A - Auburn- compete head to head with Alabama.
10 B - Clemson- trendy but lack tradition.
10 C - Tennessee - play Alabama each year. State tough to recruit.
10 D - Texas A&M - facilities, location
10 E - Oklahoma - tradition, coach
Teir 4: lot of tradition with these schools but have significant disadvantages. These schools should never finish outside the top 25. These schools are capable of getting in the top 10 but not consistently.
15 A - Notre Dame - tradition, tough state
15 B - Miami - tradition, lack admin & fans
15 C - Penn State - tradition, NE Power
15 D - UCLA - Cal, trendy, state
15 E - Oregon - trendy, west coast
Teir 5: significant disadvantages, have had previous success with right coach
20 A - Nebraska - no explanation
20 B - South Carolina- maybe, maybe not
20 C - North Carolina- talent
