Let me preface this question by saying I am not a football coach or assistant, etc. (arm chair observer). Kept hearing on the radio that Muschamp has provided the template on defense for beating the Vols, keep Dobbs in the pocket and make him beat you throwing the ball and blitz from the outside or keep the Linebackers in tight so he can't scramble. If Tennessee is going to see more of this how do you beat or combat that defensive tactic?
Tennessee has not run much 2 TE (Wolf and Croom) sets and typically I guess its considered a running formation but would that help with the linebackers playing tight on the line by giving both the outside backers someone to cover or from our side an additional blocker pass catcher depending on the call? Assume Malone and Jennings would be on the field split out and Kamara or Kelly is the running back. Wouldn't this force the safety to have to come up (assuming we block everyone) and wouldn't whether running give Dobbs more opportunity whether running or throwing as it would seem to me they would be forced to play-one-on-one on the receivers? Probably a clueless approach by me.
Would appreciate experienced insight. Thanks.
