WR Jalen McCleskey
The Cowboys will look to use McCleskey, a sophomore, in a lot of different ways. His debut season featured big plays on jet sweeps and a 67-yard punt return for a score against Texas Tech, but his role should expand even more in 2016. McCleskey has the potential to make an impact as a rusher, receiver and returner this fall thanks to his tremendous speed and quickness. -- Brandon Chatmon
This snippet is taken from an ESPN article titled the most versatile player on the top 25 teams. OKie state is #18 and Jalen was their pick for Okie state, Alvin Kamara was the pick for UT at #12.
I love this staff as much as anyone. Their talent evaluations and recruiting has been excellent, as good as anyone in the country IMO.
However, since this is a board that is primarly geared towards recruiting and talking about recruiting, i feel like we should revisit the Jalen McCleskey discussion.
Jalen was a legacy (JJ McCleskey's son) or shoj on the board for those of you who haven't been on the boards for a long time. Anyhow, a lot of us recruitniks felt that Jalen should have gotten an offer by Butch and staff and that despite his smaller size, he was a great athlete with impressive measurables and he was a year younger than the other kids in his class. If you were going to take a flyer on a small WR with a lot of upside, he was a good bet, especially for our offense. This was a debate that went on when it seemed our offense and coaches preferred the bigger WR's.
Orangeblur, Corner, and a few others that know JJ in real life all campaigned for Jalen, but bc of their ties to JJ, their opinions were seen as biased and therefore disregarded.
Anyhow, this is a kid that i wish Butch and staff would have taken in retrospect, JJ has a lot of ties to the NOLA scene and is well respected as a trainer and i do believe it may have lead to some nice ties to the LA area in the future.
