Lots of great things being said about Jennings, so thought I'd share a story about him from last season.
Took my (at the time) 11 y.o. grandson to a game...think it was North Texas. Anyway, our seats were on the first row behind the team. BTW, those seats absolutely suck for watching the game, but because he could see the players so well, he thought they were perfect. At some point, I was watching the game...having to look over the heads of the players on the sideline...when I noticed Jennings jogging over our way. He came over to high-five my grandson. Somehow, he had gotten Jauan's attention! It's important to note that Jauan wasn't playing and was in street clothes, so it wasn't like he needed to be more attentive to the game.
With about 6 or 7 minutes to go, I was ready to head out, but my grandson told me that Jauan was going to bring him Jalen Hurd's gloves...and that we couldn't leave! I was highly skeptical, but we stayed. With something under 2 minutes to go, here comes Jennings again...and he had a pair of gloves 'balled up' in his hand. At this point, a LOT of kids had come down to the wall behind the players...many fans had already left. As he approached us, all the kids saw he had those gloves and were, of course, reaching out to him. But, he made sure to hold tight to them until he had given them to my grandson!
Were those actually Hurd's gloves? Who knows...but my grandson was the happiest kid then. And I really appreciated Jennings for what he did. It didn't cost him anything and both encounters only took a very few seconds each...but the impression him made on my grandson will be with him forever!
This morning, I've read where someone claims to have heard that Jauan confronted Hurd at a team meeting last night. No idea if that's true, but at the same time, after seeing the effort that Jennings is giving each and every time he's on the field, makes me glad he's the one my grandson 'met'.
