I am not a coach, but I do take time to watch and focus on OL play and here are my observations.
1. JR Alignment - JR leans heavily toward the right when in 3 point stance with left arm down. Very easy for the defender to blow by him when he takes that position and stance. It was obvious that DT read his position and adjusted accordingly.
2. CT @ Tackle - If I am coaching, he never plays another down at OT. He is too slow getting out of the stance to take on a DE. His footwork is terrible and too many times Jack Jones was having to not only block his defender, but chip in to catch CT's DE. It was sad to see CT play so poorly.
3. JJ - the best OL on the team - it is clearly obvious to anyone who can watch football and has eyes and a brain that Jack Jones is the only OL for Vols that deserves to play every snap. He flat blew some holes for Hurd and what I really like about him - he has an aggressive attitude to help the team in any way. His pass blocking is much better than anyone - there were 3 specific plays I was watching him that he blew his guy off the line and made 10 yard throwing lanes for Dobbs. Unfortunately Dobbs made poor throws on 2 of those plays. He is quick when pulling and attempts a block on every play.
4. DW is the best center at this time. With the personnel we are playing - Weisman is the best center. Once Hall gets back - DW, JJ, and CH will give us one side of the line that can handle the defense.
5. BK at tackle - he is inconsistent, but once we get Chance back aligned with Jones - Kendrick may look better and be able to lock in on a single position.
6. DR at LT - Drew is not a pretty sight against weaker competition. He clearly is struggling major league and looks lost at times. It is difficult to score who is playing worse - DR or CT, but neither should be on the field. He is getting schooled every play...
7. Best alignment of available talent - RT/CH - RG/JJ - C/DW - LG/JR (try him with a different tackle, but be ready to sub quickly - LT/BK. It is time to allow some other players to get into the game - Big Charles, Frosh, etc.
8. Coaching - hard to believe this level of talent is playing this poorly and has regressed. Clearly an indictment on coaching...
