I missed the first 10 minutes of the replay, so I missed their first FG. Also our stops that lead to the 21-3 lead were excised from the replay because of time constraints. Otherwise...
First TD drive, all three quick outs to the TE out of Marshall set ( 1 TE and 1 WR to each side) were blown coverage by Safety (Evan Berry). By alignment and action it appears we were in 4-3 Cover 8 (CB and Safeties in man coverage, basically a Cover 0). I know people were talking about Reeves-Maybin and Maggit blowing the coverage, but it appears to me it was the safety. Also on this drive, the LBs were misaligned badly on a 3rd down QB keeper. We aligned 2 LBs to short side of the field where they had less numbers. I put this on Jumper. Berry and Jumper at most fault on this drive.
Second TD drive, Mosely was in press man in Cover 1. I don't fault the safety here. Mosley was just in a mismatch against a 6-4 WR that was faster and more physical than him. Coaches not putting him in a position to succeed here. Jumper also misplayed a screen on this drive. Mosley and Jumper and most fault on this drive.
Second FG drive, Jumper misplayed the draw to open series. We went back to Cover 1 next play and they hit Mosley over the top again. We adjust after this (for the most part) to avoid getting Mosley in press coverage from this point forward. We play a mix of Cov 2 on side and Cover 8 on the other next snap. Cover 2 on the next snap. Play 4-3 Cover 0 bringing pressure next snap for sack. They kick FG. Jumper and Mosley again responsible for most this yardage.
2nd Half...
Third TD, their first play we are in Cover 2 out of the Dime. They motion their best WR who missed the first half across the formation. Randolph rotates down into coverage and proceeds to miss the tackle. Then Foreman misses the tackle. Big play. Next snap Dime Cover 2, nothing really. Next Dime Cover 2 nothing really. Then we give up a big run because of missed tackles out of Dime Cover 2. They score on inside handoff trap play next snap. Missed tackles responsible for the yardage here.
Next drive, again in Dime Cover 2, incomplete. Next snap Dime Cover 2 but they motion and we check to Cover 1, Abernathy gets burned over the top and he single-high Safety (Randolph) didn't get over the top. Abernathy gets beat again next snap, were in Dime Cover 1 here. Nickel Cover 2 next two snaps both incompletions; D-line also got better pressure on these snaps. 3rd down we roll the dice in Nickel Cover 0 - Randolph's no call PI. Blocked FG. Dime Cover 1, they run it for no gain (luckily they didn't pick on Mosley again as he was in press coverage with no safety help). Nickel Cover 2 and Mosley is playing too soft and they throw hitch for first down on 4th down. Nickel Cover 2, Barnett and Jumper blow the play on a QB keeper (they are threatening to score at this point). Nickel Cover 2, Utah pass for 3 or so; picked up the first down. Nickel Cover 1, run for 2. Nickel Cover 0 on 2nd (blitzed safety off the edge and Jumper picked up TE), good coverage incomplete pass; penalty replay 2nd from the 8 now. Nickel Cover 1, no gain. 3rd and goal, Dime Cover 0 bring zone blitz with Barnet and Vereen dropping in coverage, pressure leads to incompletion good coverage by Abernathy. They kick FG.
Next drive, 4-3 Cover 3 good coverage. 4-3 Cover 2, Sutton almost picked it. They go Empty next snap and we play Dime Cover 0, Foreman gets beat but they miss throw. Pressure is better. They punt.
Next drive, we open Nickel Cover 2, incomplete. Next play is Dime Cover 2 and they hit a nice inside WR screen. Jumper had coverage. Run for a short gain on next play and first down. Next play we are in Nickel Cover 2, and Jumper gets lost in coverage on Ronnie Moore for a big play. Next snap, Nickel Cover they run for no gain basically. Next snap they motion us into a single high safety look again, but we are playing a softer zone instead of press man; we almost pick the underneath route the QB has to check down to because of the softer zone on deep routes. On 3rd down, we play Nickel Cover 2, they throw a seam route beating Jumper and in front of Berry. They fumble next play and that is pretty much it for them.
My takeaways...
1) Mosley couldn't hold up in press man coverage with a single-high safety. Abernathy got burned with single-high safety in press man twice too. We played more Cover 2 after their 2nd TD drive, and played softer man / zone after weather delay.
2) Evan Berry didn't play well at the safety spot, particularly on their first TD drive.
3) Jumper didn't play very well.
4) Our D-Line didn't get a good push all night and when we did, we didn't finish the deal. Our sacks came from blitz packages (at least 2 of them).
5) Gotta correct the missed tackles.
