There are a few exceptions but what happened to being proud of where you're from and wanting to represent your home state university? What happened to working your butt off to make your home state university the best it can be? Like I said, there are a few exceptions, but most kids today would rather be the "cool guy" and go where others before him have already built the school into a champion or on the brink of one. That way they can be called "champions" without having to roll up their sleeves and put callouses on their palms.

I don't follow women's college basketball, but the girl from Tennessee going to UCONN is a prime example. You're seeing this more and more in college football too, especially with kids from our state.

I was raised with the mindset that nothing was ever going to be handed out to me. If I wanted it, I had to work for it.

It seems that there would be much more satisfaction if a kid had the opportunity to represent the main university in the state he or she is from and to have the mindset "we may not win a championship here by the time my career is over, but I'm going to give everything I have for the "Tennessee" on my chest and the power "T" on the sides of my helmet and EARN one."

That's just my take.
