Marshall has put up great numbers in a very balanced offense. The scheme is similar to ours and can be molded to fit our guys.
He has coached the OL, TE, and currently coaches QB's.
He is experienced and while not a household name, saying he was the OC at Marshall this season carries some thunger, IMO. Anyone who follows cfb knows how good they were this year.
I hate to potentially lose Coach Z as a WR Coach and recruiter, but I am not sure promoting him is the best decision. You cannot make coaching moves to save recruits.
Also, WR coaches are typically pretty solid recruiters. I dont know that Z isnt replacable in both arenas... Given he bolts if not promoted.
