Legit question for officials or people that know them well

This year has seen more just awful officiating than I have ever seen in my life in football, baseball and basketball. I am talking from the HS level on up to college. Officials out of position, getting the RULES wrong, legitimately not knowing the rules, and just seemingly having different thresholds of what constitutes a violation depending on where they are playing or who comitts the violation.

I realize that the pool is dwendling becasue of more abrasive fans but what do you do if there is truth in the abrasive fans criticism? To you even care? Does it bother you at all when you determine the outcome of a game? Do you try to get better or learn the rules better? Do you accept any of the criticism or do you just dig in and refuse to believe that anyone on the sidelines could be right? Just one example a team was off sides every single kick. They kicked onsides every time. The entire right side of the line was off sides collapsing to try to get the ball on the left side. At one point a player was 5 yards off sides and the official was looking right down the line and so were the fans. People were screaming they were off sides. It was 100% obvious. They did it multiple times but he never would throw the flag. He actually allowed it to get worse. It was almost like if he refused to call it correctly because it would make him look bad. We are not talking about a little off sides we are talking 3-4 players 5 yards off sides with the kicker trailing. They were already in front of the ball converging on the ball before the kick. Did he not understand the rule or did he just refuse to call it right because a "pos fan" called him out on it?

This is a legit question. The last time I played anything organized was in the 80's and it was very rare to get truly bad officials and if they missed something they would communicate to you as a player that you did things right they just missed it. As a player I appreciated that. They also seemed to correct the mistake in game. If number 33 was holding they would eventually call it if you brought it to their attention. If 21 was throwing cheap elbows after the play they at least checked to see if the other team was getting away with illegal or dirty play.

I never see that now. All I see is them digging in, justifying their really bad calls even when the video evidence is up on the jumbotron or whatever...

No I don't have a kid playing my kid is only in middle school just observations from watching all those levels of ball even games where I didn't know anyone on either side being at tournaments and things.
