I think our defense might be better than people think.

We have experienced position coaches, which I’m a big fan of.

And we have added a good bit of talent via the transfer portal.

The problem is I am not sure we any difference makers, and that what it takes to have an above average defense in the SEC.

Can Alontae Taylor take that next step?
How good can Byron Young be?
Jeremy Banks has all the physical tools and has a real coach now…
Mitchell was Texas leading tackler, but how big of a difference can he make?
Can Thomas or Terry become a disruptor on the inside?
Slaughter and McDonald flashed in year one, curious if they can take that next step as well.
Can Baron develop a more consistent pass rush? He was a solid run defender in year 1.

We have several guys who have been proven to be solid role players who can make the occasional play… I’d love to see them take a
Robert Ayers type jump, but not necessarily predicting it.

Butler
Jackson
Bumphus
Simmons
Blakely
McCullough
Flowers
** I do worry about our range at safety though

Red zone defense and turnovers are going to be this defenses most important stats. Having guys who can create turnovers and negative plays is going to be huge. Very curious if we can find enough negative plays and red zone plays to beat some people.
