The growth of this team has been fun to watch.
Chaney is feeding Callaway and Jennings and is getting solid QB play from all 3 QB’s. Couldn’t ask for more from our passing game. Palmer coming alive against USC was a good sign as well.
This is elementary but Callaway and Jennings remind me of Grant and Admiral... they’re going to get their’s, and if we get a good game from a couple of the supporting cast, we could be tough to beat.
The next thing I’d like to see is getting Chandler the ball in space beyond the LOS. Perhaps a better way to say it is, find a LB covering him and it’s a wrap.
Our run game and the RB’s have been “good enough,” which is fine. Getting 3-4 tough yards and staying in good relationship to the sticks, we can win games.
The OL impressed the shit out of me saturday. Guys dropping like flies and we never missed a beat. Crossing my fingers that Smith and Kennedy are both back next season...
If Maurer stays healthy and cleans up the turnovers, we have a real shot to run the table.
Defensively we are playing really well at all 3 levels. By no means a complete team, but the big bodies on the DL are eating up space and occasionally making plays. Edge play is markedly improved, particularly against the run.
Against USC, when To’oto’o made the 4th and 1 stop (might have been 3rd down, can’t remember) but Darrell Taylor made that play. He absolutely turtle shelled the TE trying to kick him out. DT reduced and wrong armed him into oblivion.
Bennett and Johnson need to keep showing up. If they could be LaTroy Lewis and Corey Vereen good, that’s huge for this team... and even bigger next year.
Warrior is playing at an all conference level, as is Bituli.
I like what we’re getting at CB, but thought Taylor and Thompson would be bigger difference makers than they’ve been... but they’re still solid.
With George and Burrell (before injury) being solid, Art Green coming in... I’d be curious to see if Taylor wants to go play WR next season.
Depth at Safety, edge, MLB are concerns... staying healthy at these spots is the key down the stretch. I would love to see some younger guys getting a lot of reps in the second half this week, given we put them away like we should.
