should they really have fired Miles so soon this season? Virtually no one in their top group of targets is going to accept any position publicly until at least December (when they could have fired Miles anyway) recruiting will suffer the exact same for the next 8 weeks either way.

Jimbo Fisher is not going to announce a move away from FSU right now. Same with the guy at TCU. Same with guy at Stanford. Their own mods say the Houston guy is a reach to leave the state of Texas, and he would never abandon ship at this point.

Apparently Petrino is not among their top choices. Could they go after Briles? Possibly. But he is 62 years old when they kick their next season off. He didn't turn Baylor or Houston around immediately and there is no one on LSU's current roster who can run his offense. That team is nowhere near as talented as LSU squads of old were, and they have a lot of seniors and juniors who would declare early. You can certainly rebuild there, but do you want your HC to be 65 when things are finally rolling. And the guy does have some, uh, baggage...

What good have they done with a week 4 firing if their next coach has still not been announced by this time next month?
