Here are my grades on the team, position by position.
QB - Dobbs has thrown the football better this year than he ever has (still misses what I would term easy throws). He has been under constant duress and has managed to make a lot of plays. Some will point to him throwing more ints this season, but he had a few dropped last year. When he runs, he is much more effective. Grade: B
RB - Fumbles by this group has been a major problem. Hurd seems to be a little more explosive through the hole this year, but holes have been hard to find. Kamara and Kelly are fast and run with power. I hope this group gets more space to operate in the 2nd half of the season. Grade: B-
WR/TE - Drops have been an issue with this group, but this group has made plays as well. JJ is a difference maker. Byrd needs more touches. Malone started of good, but has disappeared the last 3 games. Smith has battled injury, but he has been a disappointment. Croom has disappointed as well. Grade: C
OL - Injuries have taken there toll on this group. More than any other position, these guys must function as 1. That is hard with a revolving line up. This group has struggled, which has caused the other groups problems. This group has to get better. Grade: F-
DL - Injury and dismissal had really hurt the DT group. They were starting to play really well before the BAMA game. Barnett has been tremendous, but the other DEs need to get better fast. Vereen has disappointed, but he really came on last year after the bye week. Kongbo is progressing. Grade:C
LB - Where to begin? This group has had to be the hardest hit group with injury. Berry played about as well as any 4th team LB could be expected. Jumper has made a few plays. I almost would give this group and incomplete grade. Grade: D
DB - Maybe the most disappointing group as a whole. TK is not running well. Abernathy is a solid safety, not great. Sutton got hurt. Martin can't get his head out of his ass. Mosley has improved some. Gaulden is as good as advertised. Buchanon and Osbourne look to be good for the future but must get stronger to get off blocks. Grade: D
ST - Outside of the shank in the Bama game, Daniel has been really good. Medley has been good on KOs and FGs. Return units have been solid, not spectacular. Coverage units have been really good except for 1 against Bama. Grade: B
