Vol Faithful,

I don't know what prompted me to post this morning, but on my way into work I was listening to Mike & Mike on 92.9 ESPN, the local affiliate here in Memphis. They were blasting the NCAA, and those that made the decision to get rid of satellite college football camps. Obviously, this was in response to Michigan and Jim Harbaugh setting up shop all over the SEC footprint.

They acted like this was the most heinous act not allowing high school prospects to be seen by as many colleges as possible. They said not that kids would only be able to afford to go to maybe one camp to get looks. I myself went through the football recruiting process. I recall my parents paying a decent amount of money to use one of the recruiting services. I knew I wasn't going to play in the NFL, and eventually opted for going to the only school I wanted to in Tennessee. One of my best friends that I played with had a preferred walk on in Knoxville. After seeing his experience with three coaches in four years, I am happy with the decision I made not to play.

The bottom line is, if you are good enough to play at the Division 1 level, you will get noticed. High school coaches develop relationships with college coaches and help in that process. The only regret I have from the recruiting process is turning down a free trip to the University of San Diego. Still haven't been to San Diego, other than that no regrets. These satellite camps were never a real point of concern for me. There are thousands of kids playing high school football every year, thousands playing college football, and at any given time roughly 1,700 playing in the NFL. I am sick and tired of people complaining about not being able to afford this, or that. If you are committed to making your child's dream a reality, you will find a way to get them to these football camps.

I'll never forget going to Ole Miss' camp when Coach Orgeron was the coach. That man is straight from the swamp, and no one could understand a word he said. I really enjoy listening to Mike & Mike the majority of the time, sometimes they just go off on these lib rants, and I quickly tune them out.

Everyone enjoy your Tuesday, I wish I was coming up for the Orange & White game. I'll probably end up golfing in the morning, then tailgate in my front yard like Cousin Eddie and be loose come game time.

I hope we win, Go Vols.
