Several months ago when the Murdaugh stories were first emerging a friend who works in the legal community and pretty well knows everything going on, and I were discussing the Murdaugh revelations about Paul's drunken boat driving that killed Mallory Beach. Out of the blue he/she said those boys are both murderers.

As this bizarre and twisted story has unraveled and published, new facts have come out, I have thought about that statement. I do not know if he/she was referring to Paul and the boat wreck and Buster killing someone else. Paul would have been quite young for it to him. But many at the time many in the Low Country thought it was both boys.

But now with the Stephen Smith case is being reopened there is renewed interest In Buster being involved. There was significant speculation at the time he was the one and also that the Murdaugh boys did it." That has been widely reported. What seems clear is there was a cover up and it was not a hit and run. Law enforcement concluded that during the initial investigation it was not hit and run, but the autopsy said hit and run without any evidence except he was found in the road. A final twist would be for Buster to be indicted.

Now it is reported that one of Alex's brothers out of the blue contacted the family and offered to represent them free of charge. The family smelled a rat and did not accept. And they have never accepted it was hit and run. It is also clear that this is a Murdaugh family way of getting in on a case. Offer free legal representation and that gets them in as the legal representative and opens the doors for manipulation. Alex did that over and over with clients and involving his lawyer friend and bankers to launder money and defraud clients. That is known.

With all the time since Smith's death my guess is it will be changed from hit and run, but there will be lack of evidence to convict anyone. Probably the only two who know, IMO, are Alex and Buster and neither one of them will talk.

This is the most bizarre story I have ever seen. What a corrupt family, and now it looks like they have added murder to their list of crimes. Alex is pleading not guilty to murdering Paul and Maggie. The family is still standing by him. And we have hardly touched on the family illegal activities where the elder Buster skated on a federal indictment where almost everyone else was convicted. A local case in their stronghold.
