Coaches are insane to throw away possessions like that. I would think there are likely in-depth analyses done on these things, but it's hard for me to understand how it could possibly be so risky to throw a couple mid-range passes - at any given time in the game they would have to be making throws like that. In other words, they'll have to make those plays during the game anyway if they hope to win.

C. But if you run the clock out with nearly 2 mins left, with timeouts, and only 40 yards or so to get to field goal range or magainst a horrendous secondary, you then have X - 1 plays to score points.
