The Mustang prevent defense just prevented the defensive team from winning a football game once again. Mississippi State rushed 3 guys the entire last possession by Kentucky. And despite Stoops' pathetic clock management during that final possession, Miss State's prevent defense still allowed UK to pull it out.
Unreal how many coaches are afraid to go and play aggressively and win football games. Don't ever help your opponent beat you. If you play aggressively and blitz and they beat you, then so be it -- they made the play and you didn't. Congrats to them.
But allowing a team to methodically move the football down the field (all the while gaining rhythm and momentum as they march) in an effort to "prevent" the big play often "prevents" your own team from winning. Makes me sick.
I just don't understand the mindset. I suppose that is why the coaches that don't coach scared are usually successful and are viewed as being "innovative".
I realize that there has to be some balance and that you have to be smart and not be foolishly aggressive -- rather, you need to be situationally aggressive. For example, when you are in the situation that LSU was in right before the half tonight with Ole Miss (deep in your own territory with little time left and and 8 point lead) you should play it safe there and run out the clock.
