The comments he makes the media probably bother most more than me... to me it comes down to this.
1. You beat USC, you win the East... he failed.
2. You beat Vandy, you are a very respectable 9-3 (second best record in the SEC) and play in a New Years Six bowl game... he failed.
Either item would have continued the upward trajectory of the program.
Now, at 8-4, headed to a truly meaningless bowl game... Butch is floating his name to other jobs because he can't take the heat.
Any momentum he had, is gone. He lost to TWO 6-6 teams. No amount of spinning can correct those blunders... especially when just going .500 would have created a drastically more positive narrative.
Now, he could prove us all wrong and have a Malzahn or Franklin type "hot-seat season" and cool everything down... I hope he does and hope I look foolish for doubting him... but I'm not banking on it.
I have defended and supported Butch on this board from day 1. He did a lot of good things. But I'm out of his corner now... can't lose two games with that much on the line on two separate occasions.
