The loss does stink, but it isn't like it's never happened before. Did it mean Spurrier was a poor coach when his best ever team at South Carolina got beat by Butch in his first year here? How about Kevin Sumlin and Texas A&M losing to Mississippi State? There are many more examples. We're about 60% of what we were before this season kicked off. It just wasn't our year because of injuries. That doesn't mean we can't make a run next season with a young qb that has a much higher ceiling than Dobbs, a good RB and WR corps, a deeper OL, and a solid defense. The injury bug may leave us alone too. It's going to be nice not having a 4 game gauntlet as well.

If I'm the new AD, I discuss Butch making upgrades to his coaching staff across the board that will help on the field and with recruiting. I provide the necessary funds and extend Butch's contract by 2 years (thru 2022) so the talented assistants, including a true QB coach, knows their boss will be here and they'll have stable employment. Butch has greatly improved over last year with in game management and in game decisions. For some odd reason this team was slow out of the gates, but Butch proved last year that he could get his team fired up before kickoff and ready to go game to game.

In this game, a head coach is only as good as his assistants. For a championship, not only do you have to have luck, no key injuries, play makers at key positions, and the right players, but you have to have the right set of assistants too.
