Texas Tech offered Fresno (CA) Clovis West 4-star quarterback Adrian Martinez a scholarship Tuesday. InsideTheRedRaiders.com caught up with Martinez shortly after for the scoop about his thoughts on the Red Raiders and his overall recruitment.

Texas Tech issued a surprise offer on Tuesday to Scout300 quarterback Adrian Martinez, formerly committed to Cal. The 6-foot-2, 185-pound quarterback was excited about the offer and discussed how his Texas Tech recruitment started.

"It was really something that just came along today. A couple Texas Tech coaches followed me on Twitter earlier today, and then we scheduled a call for 11 o'clock to talk to coach Kingsbury. The phone was passed over to him and he just kind of talked me through his mindset and gave me the offer through there."

Coach Kliff Kingsbury talked Martinez through his vision for the position moving forward.

"He was just telling me about how my skillset would fit in their offense. He thinks that I would be a superstar in that type of system and the offense he runs there. He really takes pride in their development of quarterbacks there. I was definitely honored to get the offer from him knowing that he puts a lot into his craft."

Texas Tech has consistently seen elite quarterback play under Kliff Kingsbury, including by recent protégé Patrick Mahomes, drafted #10 overall by the Kansas City Chiefs last week. Has Martinez seen Mahomes play?

"Yeah, of course! That was a big thing. We talked about his reputation with quarterbacks, what he's done to put his guys in the NFL. That's kind of a big thing, obviously, so his reputation kind of speaks for itself in that way - especially after this last year with Pat Mahomes."

So how does Martinez feel about the offer?

"Yeah, it's definitely an intriguing offer. I feel like I would fit really really well into the system. It's just a matter of getting to know coach Kingsbury and the rest of the staff a little bit better and seeing where they're at, things of that nature. Talking it over with my dad, and seeing where we go from there."

The four-star quarterback, who passed for 2,484 yards, 25 touchdowns and ran for 1,385 yards, 16 more scores last season. discussed his visit plans for Texas Tech.

"Right now I'm not sure, honestly. I would hope so. We'll see how things work, that's something I'll have to discuss with my dad and figure out a time to do that. School is kind of winding down right now so there's a lot of testing and stuff going on. We'll just have to see if there's time to fit that in now or if not, early summer."

Are any schools standing out to Martinez at the moment?

"Not necessarily, I would say Tennessee is near the top of my list, but really there isn't a top group of schools that I'm focusing on."

The Fresno prospect discussed his timeline and process for making a decision.

"I would probably say anytime between next week to sometime during the summer, that's when the process will probably end for me. I probably won't put out a Top 5 or Top 10 list, it would probably just be more of a commitment. I feel like I kind of rushed it before [with Cal], there really isn't a rush, I just want things to feel right. you know what I mean? I just want to feel one hundred percent confident in my decision and where I'm going to end up. I wouldn't say that there's a certain point or date that I want it to be over with."

What factors will Martinez be taking into consideration the most as he makes his decision?

"I would say one of the biggest things is really just feeling the confidence from the coaching staff that they believe in my abilities and that I'm a top priority for them, that they can see me being successful in their system, making an impact on and off the field. Obviously I want to get a good education, so I want to see the programs that are set up there for student-athletes to be successful after football, to see what they have to offer in that regard."

Martinez holds offers from Alabama, Colorado, Georgia, Miami, Oregon, Utah, West Virginia, and Washington State, among others.
