I know every GREAT OC has to move from position coach to OC and start somewhere. But I am also totally convinced that the odds of success OVERWHELMINGLY favor hiring an established successful OC that has a fine record of accomplishments than hiring a position coach to become OC.
I am a HUGE fan of Scott ant think his potential in the coaching ranks is high. Not to deminish his 6 game 4-2 win record because it is one of the reasons I am so high on him and he did well. But that doesn't make him an established OC or even a good bet for one. He was a place holder that had kids that like him a lot playing hard for him. That was still only a snap shot and involved in that short time only a tiney fraction of head coaching duties. I like him enough to thank he can be a successful OC for us perhaps even a very good one. But that doesn't keep me with being uncomfortable with choosing a position coach over an established big time OC Candidate.
