Had a conversation with a guy over the weekend that I have just met a couple of times through a mutual friend. He works as a certified mechanic for Ford at a large dealership. He told me that when he first started there a few years back that he got called into the owner's office and got threatened with being fired for doing something the owner thought was really bad. What was he doing? Well, when a customer brought their vehicle in to have basic maintenance done, if he noticed something bad wrong with the vehicle he would bring it to the attention of the owner and the head of the service department. Many times whatever was wrong with the vehicle was still covered under warranty. He was told that unless the warranty was expired that he was to keep his mouth shut about problems with vehicles unless it was what the car was brought in for in the first place. He said he has continued documenting problems that he finds that are still under warranty but that they have not fired him because they are in need of good mechanics. Do you all think that this is the exception or the norm? Oh, and by the way it is just 17 days until ITS FOOTBALL TIME IN TENNESSEE!!!
