First off, I know recruiting is a dirty dirty business; but, I don't think the kid deserved this. I think the mistake the staff made was, when they landed Philips, who I think they wanted more. They should have told Ford that day, thanks but no thanks.
Now, with all that being said, we need other positions to fill other than DE. We have Maggitt, Vareen, Barnett, Butcher, Philips, Taylor. We have not been in this situation for a long long time, where we have the luxury or telling a 4* kid to look around, but it is where we need to be in order to beat GA, FL, Bama and others in the fall.
Does it suck for the kid? YES. Did the staff screw this one up? Maybe. But they didn't handle it well, and they are trying to get more players of "need" and higher caliber kids too. If we land an Allen, or Kelly, this will all become a moot point, and we sure won't remember this come summer. But I do feel bad for the kid getting cut loose 2 weeks before NSD, and I wish him the bests. But it is a damn good thing that we have so many kids wanting to be here.
It will all be fine, and they will learn from this.
