I have a buddy who is a donor that gets invited to practices over the years. He also gets to know some of the coaches and AD folks. I have shared some of his info over the years. The last few years he has not been on contact with the coaches/AD. He hasn't been to a practice in 5 years. He was invited yesterday and went. Here is some of what he said. None of this is ground breaking stuff but thought I would share.
CJH: is the most genuine coach he has ever me met. Just really smart and down to earth guy. Was very polite and did not have an ego. Said when he is not doing coaching stuff he likes to be on the water. Doesn't like to drive the boat but sit back and relax. My buddy said when he is on the practice field he is coaching. Not standing around or barking on a micro phone like Butch did. He is absolutely coaching. You could tell the players love him and listen to him. Really good vibe on the practice field.
Talked to Max and Frazier. He has known them for over 25 years. He said they love this coaching staff. Said TN is at a really good place with these guys. Only lost one coach (to NFL) which was huge.. They said the players absolutely love CJH and the other coaches. Will play hard for them and listen..
Danny White: has got a plan and for TN and will absolutely execute that plan. Very driven and very smart. We are fortunate to have him.
Hendon Hooker looks really sharp. You can tell he is the leader but leads by example. Was doing anything he wanted on the field.
Squirrel White: was the talk of the practice. It is amazing how fast he is. Track speed. They threw one to him in the slot and he was like a "dart". Just obvious how much faster he is than others. He said he looked like he was 5'8 but the coaches said he is one of the tuffest players on the team already. Had to fight to the end to keep him committed.
Like I mentioned he hasn't been on the hill in a few years. This trip renewed some energy. He will be back. Loved the coaches and AD folks. felt very welcomed. really liked the energy around the program. From talking to all kinds of people the vibe is that this could be a special year as long as they can stay healthy. They think they will have a chance to win in every game they play.
