*Disclaimer winning on the field matters the most which I thought was obvious but apparently some wanted to point it out*
We are closing strong. I think there is a reason for that. One of the reasons at least.
I have been able to spend some time with Josh. I am sure others have as well. He is as genuine of a person as you will ever meet. He really enjoys having a conversation and makes you feel important throughout. An awesome quality when you are the most famous person in the state.
But Josh is not an in your face flashy type guy. He is just gonna be him. You come away from that conversation saying "man that is good dude right there" more than you want to do backflips. He will absolutely engage and crack jokes and laugh etc but he isn't a Bruce Pearl/Dabo Swinney type personality. I have learned that leadership has nothing to do with charisma or personality. Many who hire and run organizations have probably felt this as well. Even Butch was like this. He could sell ice to an eskimo in the first conversation. But it will ultimately come down to substance and foundation.
So I think that with him it truly is all about building relationships. His strong suit isn't recruiting a kid for 3 weeks and landing him. Some guys can do that. When he has time to build deep relationships everyone absolutely loves him. But maybe if a recruit is comparing a couple conversations with Heupel and a Dabo type it may be different than after 8 months of getting to know CJP.
CJH talks all the time about about relationships and how that is what it is all about. I don't think it is coincidence that recruiting has ascended as these kids and parents have gotten to know him over the last year.
I think he has had a year to build with this recruiting class and these kids see the person now and it is making a big difference. Not a flash in the pan guy like Butch. A truly great person. And a leader. He also doesn't give a crap about any type of narrative. He is gonna be him which is steady, confident and a players coach who can push guys. That is substance.
