I love Barnes but I agree that he is subject to criticism like any other coach. And hey, that’s what fans do, right? He knows about 1000000 times more about basketball than I ever will, BUT that does not stop me from having opinions beaded on my lifelong semi-serious observation of the game.
Strategically he is old school, I get irritated with it when we get beat but every style has its strengths and weaknesses. He coaches sound basketball.
My big complaint with him is, I think he wears his players down in the regular season and they tend to play tired during the post season. Part of it is his aggressive man defense. That takes a ton of energy, especially running out at all those quick-three teams (Oats, Pearl). A second factor is his rotations. After the pre season he rarely goes more than seven/eight deep and really doesn’t give the seven or (rarely) eight man any run at all. Something’s gotta give. I’m hoping for a little deeper rotation and more PT for the bench players. We will see.
