When explaining what successful organizations do vs failing organizations. It’s one of the most beautiful/demoralizing comparisons I’ve ever seen.
In Knoxville we have a tried and true sports product (football) that has every reason to succeed. It has fans. It has facilities. It has tradition. It has TV. It has power. All the ingredients exist. Yet, it’s been a decade long failure with no end in sight.
In Nashville we have a sports product (hockey) that many in the region scoff at. It had few fans. It was losing its facility. It had zero tradition. It didn’t have TV. It had no power in the market. Yet, it’s been a decade of success and continued climbing to the top of the NHL. The future as bright as ever.
The list of failures at UT is endless, as is the list of brilliant moves by The Preds. As a fan of both, I can’t help but compare and see how far off the path of success Tennessee is (to this day). I also can’t help but look back with great pride at how Poile & Nashville have brought The Preds to this spot. It will be a great lesson for me for as long as I live. There is so much to learn from both organization.
