This may be a post deserving of tl;dr status; but, I'm a cinephile, so I was a little curious to see what movies made your all's cut. I have to confess that I was expecting some genres to be disproportionately represented. Since the responses surprised me a bit, I figured I'd compile the distribution [based on genre] of the "top fives" and share it here.

The categories used came from "Filmsite.org," which didn't have certain genres represented in the "main genre" categories that I thought might be there. Oh, whale. Strike two in the assumption department, I guess. Anyway, here are the results, per genre, as of 9AM this morning:

Action: 28 votes [6.407% of total votes (hereinafter, "TV")]
Adventure: 9 votes [2.059% of "TV"]
Comedy: 52 votes [11.899% of "TV"]
Crime/Gangster: 93 votes [21.281% of "TV"]
Drama: 134 votes [30.663% of "TV"]
Epics/Historical: 29 votes [6.636% of "TV"]
Horror: 5 votes [1.144% of "TV"]
Musicals/Dance: 8 votes [1.830% of "TV"]
Sci-Fi: 18 votes [4.118% of "TV"]
War: 26 votes [5.949% of "TV"]
Westerns: 30 votes [6.864% of "TV"]

Just for the sake of @Orange Juiced, I made a new genre: Horrible [sorry, man... but... GIGLI?!? BATTLEFIELD EARTH?!?] - that "genre" accounted for 5 votes, or 1.144% of the "TV."

Clearly, I'm like @antlfgrnd was the other day and am desperately seeking out a form of creative avoidance... I am not looking forward to grading this stack of papers.

Anyway, I kinda figured you guys would be heavier on the action and adventure end of the spectrum. As ever, tho', the VQ never fails to surprise me. Thanks to THE GODFATHER and THE GODFATHER: PART II, the crime/gangster genre made a strong showing; but, THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION carried the drama category into first place almost single-handedly.

Thanks to everyone for sharing their picks [even if I didn't start the thread], and especially to those who shared movies I'd never heard of; that's no small feat.

And neither is this stack of papers.
