Fascinating show about LBJ's fight to get the Civil Rights Bill of 1964 passed. The cast is amazing. Brian Cranston's uncouth portrayal of Johnson is Emmy worthy. I never really understood the reason for his passion for equality until now. Johnson's prophecy that The South would never be a part of the Democratic Party in his lifetime and beyond was spot-on.
For those of us who lived through that turbulent time, today it's hard to fathom the disregard that so many had for other human beings because of their skin color. I still get chills watching what was done to the freedom fighters by those resisting change and authorities.
I wish all the recruits would watch this show so that they can see the not-so-distance past of Mississippi and Alabama. Remember that today, sororities and fraternities are not "required" to accept those they deem "undesirable."
