Not trying to get "free" legal advice here but just curious as to where to even start?

I have been a 1099 independent contractor since last October working for a distributor in Knoxville/Tri Cities. I've had a non compete with him since I started.

However, on March 1 the company that we distribute took the distributorship from my boss and gave it to another guy. I signed a non-compete with him and corporate but was let go on March 22. I did file W2 paperwork with this guy but was only paid once and taxes were not taken out and I'm not sure as to whether I'd be a W2 or 1099 with him.

Anyway, I have a potential offer in the area but wasn't sure how much ground they'd have being I was "employed" for less than a month. Any ideas on who to talk to or feel free to give me that free advice I wasn't seeking haha
