OT - Canada Vacation

My wife and I and our two yr old are going to Quebec City for 7 days in late July/early August. We have a good game plan for QC, but we would like to take Via Rail Canada to Montreal for a day or half day trip.

Does anyone have experience with Via Rail? It seems to be toddler friendly.

Also, what's your top five to see in Montreal for 6-8 hours?
