Hello, all.

Once upon a time, John Adams wrote in a letter to Thomas Jefferson, "I cannot contemplate human affairs, without laughing or crying. I choose to laugh." It seems that we all could use a good laugh these days, so I thought I'd indulge in another of these film recommendations "series." Having lost a friend to this bloody virus just yesterday - a good dude who trained me to be a Lay Eucharistic Minister at the local Episcopal Church - this will be a somewhat purgative exercise for me.

About that, tho', a few qualifications. This isn't some curated list... if it were, I'd throw in some stuff like BEING THERE or SOME LIKE IT HOT or DUCK SOUP. Instead, these are films that, for whatever reason, have tickled my funny bone in the past... and are doing so again on occasion in the present. Also, free time is quite limited for me these days, so I won't be prattling on about each film quite like I have in the past. I'm sure nobody will miss my bloviating. From time to time, maybe I'll indulge that predilection of mine. Maybe not.

Anyway, enough yapping. On with the show. After all, it's April Fool's Day, so what better time to spill about some comedies?

First up: GROUNDHOG DAY

From IMDb, the plot is: "A weatherman finds himself inexplicably living the same day over and over again."

And that may explain why this one got bumped to the head of the line of this little "series." With now thirty more days to #flattenthecurve and so on, I feel like it's going to be a somewhat tedious revisiting of the previous fifteen. There's lots of good stuff to say about this film, like its philosophical import in Asian countries [a Freudian rationale for making it the first pick, perhaps] to how Andie MacDowell really was slapping Bill Murray in all those takes.

Like many of the films in this "series," I'm not trying to cover new ground, per se. I'm just recommending what I feel are genuinely funny flicks. But, just in case you haven't seen it, here's the trailer for this one.

Enjoy! [Yes, over and over... during these almost six more weeks of self-quarantining. :)]
