Hello, all.
The kiddos are likely to wake up sooner rather than later, so I'm going to cut to the chase and recommend one of the single best comedies ever [in my humble opinion (tho' I guess that's kind of a given since it's in this "series," so... yeah...)] - a comedy so good that it got a callback in another film that probably makes some folks' top ten list.
It's a flick that made people appreciate anew both Mozart's "Marriage of Figaro" and The Silhouettes' "Get a Job."
TRADING PLACES.
From IMDb, the film is about "A snobbish investor and a wily street con artist [who] find their positions reversed as part of a bet by two callous millionaires."
There is just so much to love about this John Landis classic. [And yes, he'd need to have built up some good comedy karma given his monumental screw-up whilst filming THE TWILIGHT ZONE: THE MOVIE.] Eddie Murphy and Dan Aykroyd are pitch perfect in their roles as the "wily... con artist" and "snobbish investor," respectively. Of course, Denholm Elliott ["Marcus" from the INDIANA JONES flicks] and Jamie Lee Curtis are quite solid in their roles, too... and no, I'm not referring specifically to Curtis's assets, tho' you won't be disappointed if that's your thing, because this movie follows the time-honored 80s flick convention of randomly throwing in some nudity.
It's a lot more than that, of course. A smattering of "Pygmalion" and some awesome buddy comedy chemistry really push this one into classic territory. Add the two Muppet Show critics in human form [Ralph Bellamy and Don Ameche rather than Statler and Waldorf] and you've got yourself a pretty dang good cast. And, really, considering the shtick of the film as being centered around stocks and futures and whatnot, it's a pretty timely flick to be watching while our contemporary boards are as volatile as they are.
If you're interested, I've included the trailer below:
Enjoy! Preferably with a cup of fresh [un]frozen concentrated orange juice... and whatever else you want to add to it, of course.
