Hello, all.

I'm going to go iconic again with today's pick, which was both written and directed by John Hughes, the guy behind a pick some of you have suggested [i.e. PLANES, TRAINS AND AUTOMOBILES (ugh, that Oxford comma, tho')]. It's one that Family Guy has milked for a lot of material, so I guess I may as well follow suit. Today's flick is:

FERRIS BUELLER'S DAY OFF

From IMDb, the plot is about "A high school wise guy [who] is determined to have a day off from school, despite what the Principal thinks of that."

Yeah, never mind what sort of creepy hijinks the Principal [Jeffrey Jones] got into later, he's actually a very good foil for the aforementioned high school wise guy in this one. The iconic scenes and fourth-wall breaks are abundant in this one... my wife and I actually tried to recreate the one with Georges Seurat's painting, but the folks at the Art Institute of Chicago wouldn't allow freaking photographs. Oh, whale!

As with most of the choices so far in this "series," and with many of them, in fact, I'm not breaking any new ground with the recommendations here... but it's still just so good. And, like GROUNDHOG DAY, it's a deeper film than it may seem to be at first blush. To avoid any spoilers, I'll just say this: What happens to Cameron?!? There's plenty of debate about that online, surprisingly enough.

If you're like my wife and haven't seen this one, do yourself a favor and check it out. The protagonist might actually sorta be the antagonist, but it's almost impossible not to root for him. If you're interested, I've embedded the trailer below.

Enjoy! Enjoy! Enjoy! Enjoy! [Apologies to Ben Stein.]
