so my 13 year old Goodman unit is in need of replacement. Could spend thousands to replace compressor but thought it best to just put that toward new unit. That said, I'm looking at going with Carrier but don't know if I should spend more for a 16.5 SEER multi stage unit or just go with the 15.5 SEER single stage unit. There is about a $2600 difference. I don't see the energy efficiency making up the cost difference but is the quality of comfort that much better that it worth it? I have a 5 ton unit that I will be getting everything changed. Even the furnace. I've been quoted approx $10,700 for the multi stage and $8100 for the single. Would really appreciate your thoughts.
