The graphics are sort of throwback, and it doesn't have NFL rosters (but you can download them from somewhere else), but the actual gameplay--running, passing, playing defense--is so much better than Madden.
Right now it's only on Steam (PC), but it will be out on consoles some time this year. You could play it on any PC or laptop though. It's not a demanding game as far as system requirements go.
My one complaint is that they haven't released Franchise Mode yet, although someone made a Franchise Mode mod you can install. Without that, you can only play a single season or tournament.
Also, teams and players are fully customizable, so you could turn it into a college football game if you wanted to.
