The guys that do mechanical work on our cars recommended that we inflate the tires to 40psi because that would help prevent wheel damage from hitting potholes. We have a lot of serious pothole in the Knoxville area now. Told me the tires would not wear quicker even though overinflated.
1. Is this true, i.e. that inflated the tires to 40psi will help protect the wheels? Camry tires, per the door plate are to be inflated to 34psi. Our other car, per the doorplate says 30psi.
2. Are there any downsides to inflating the tires to 40psi, i.e. several pounds per square inch more than specified by the manufacturer?
