I think our chances to win the East just went up after last night.
I think we needed to prove that we can win an incredibly ugly game, and I think that a close win is much better for future growth of our team than a blowout win is. Like Marcus said on SEC Nation before kickoff, the difference a lot of times is "hoping to win" vs "knowing you're going to win." Despite just how ugly that game was, our team knew we were going to win.
I don't think Butch ever thought we'd actually lose the game last night. Neither did I. My wife repeatedly asked me why I was so calm. I've seen enough football to know how things shake out. Butch was as cool as a cucumber on the sidelines (at least on tv it looked like that). I think that shows coaching maturity. We knew we were talented enough to win by playing vanilla, we just didn't expect it to be THAT close.
We needed to prove to ourselves that we can win close ballgames and finish out games. By pulling out a tight one, we're able to go back and make corrections moving forward. If anything, I think this team comes closer and we get substantially better moving forward.
