The 2020 season will be known as the Covid season.
Some coaches prepared for it well some coaches did not do as well preparing their team through it. Despite this that does not change anything as far as building the Tennessee vols team for the future.
Look back at where this team was when Butch Jones was fired and Jeremy Pruitt was hired.
Look at each positional group and notice that the team is more talented in more deeper than it was prior to Pruitt coming to Tennessee.
The office of line is loaded with some very good players on the front line and as reserves so our depth is exponentially better than it was three years ago.
We’re not real deep at running back but we do have a couple fairly talented running backs.
At wide receiver we have a lot of youth but it’s faster taller and quicker than what it was 3 years ago.
Our quarterback room was deeper than it had been in a long time just I don’t think that the talent was there and that is one position that I think frankly was mismanaged.
Our defense of line has more talent and is deeper than it has been in a long long time under Pruitt it is an area where we have definitely improved.
We had a really thin group at linebacker during the Butch Jones years in the dual years and it is much deeper and better under Pruitt than it has been an awful long time.
Our secondary is deeper more talented and faster than it has been in several years probably going all the way back to the Fulmer years.
This being said you could see that Fulmer is correct in that Pruitt is doing a good job of rebuilding the roster. In my eyes the only issues that we had during the 2020 Covid season was that there didn’t seem to be any kind of cohesiveness with her office and defense but again a lot of that can be attributed to lack of spring practice and lack of time on the field with the players. I know other teams had to deal with the same issues but I think a lot of these teams were more talented than what we had and they were the ones that are successful this season.
We hear that there was some issues between some coaches on the coaching staff were at odds with one another and hurt the team cohesiveness as well.
Bottom line Pruitt is rebuilding the roster in a way that all of us should be able to approve of. Some want us to be more talented than we are but that comes in time and you have to show some patience.
If you fire this coach and I’m not saying it’s right or wrong thing to do but expect this to become a 6 to 7 year rebuilt by whoever the next coach would be.
Many of you complain that you’re tired of losing and being embarrassed by a team that you route for you better think about what you wish for because you just may get it.
In my eyes I think that we just may be better suited to let Pruitt build his roster up for a couple years and see what he does with it. Then you make the decision to move forward one way or the other. If he’s winning hey everything’s all good and if he’s not winning at least you have a roster that is built up in would be competitive the first year if you had to hire a new coach.
