Imo he wanted to try winning by defense, and did not really know what kind of QB style he wanted, just one that doesn't turn over the ball.
A defensive guy like Pruitt, MUST hire a Off. Coord. who can scheme, use misdirection, and knows the type of QB he needs adjust to today's higher scoring game.
