Having a Tuesday off might have been an advantage for us because we were off last week. Arkansas is playing really good football right now. Offensively they are spreading the ball out, running it well and playing clean up front. Defensively they give you alot of different looks, play hard and force turnovers. Coach Odom has done a really good job.
What improvement is needed...
First two games +3 in turnover margin and are -6 or 7 in the last three games. That's the most important thing. You see it all over football. Teams that lose the turnover margin have a harder chance winning. We have to force more turnovers on defense.
On third down offense lack of execution or too many third and longs...
Probably both. We need to be in manageable third downs. Winning first and second down is important. The other thing is creating explosive plays. When you have to convert third downs over and over again it's hard to consistently drive the ball.
Update on Harrison Bailey....
It's been good to get Harrison reps. He continues to progress just like anyone would as you get more practice time. Harrison is really smart, works hard and works hard every day that he goes out there.
On Arky's Burks...
Remember recruiting him out of HS. I think he's one of the best players in our conference. He's a mismatched. I think he has a chance to be really good.
On testing...
We tested on Sunday. Unfortunately, we did have some false positives so some guys missed Monday's practices, but they are back so that's good. They will be back and ready to go today.
Identity of the offense...
I think you have to have balance if you want to have a chance to win every game. You have to be able to run the ball. You have to have a qb who can make all the throws. You have to mix up tempo. We have to be a team that creates explosive plays and score TD's in the red area. There's lots of areas where we have to improve.
More on QB's...
There was a situation where Jarrett was hurt and other guys took reps. At every position at our practices we are seeing who performs the best. Not many times do you see a guy who doesn't perform well on practice but does on Saturdays.
JG's improvement...
He helps us get in the right plays. We put alot on our qb's. How do you lead the other 10 guys on the field? A times you have to alert other people to what a defense is doing. These are things that our younger qb's the more they get these looks at practice the more they can improve. JG has been a good teammate and has done a nice job leading the QB room.
