A: To get recognized. To be in the know and to be known as a person connected to the top decision makers. It all boils down to impressing people.

That's why UT should should have hired Fulmer. Who wouldn't want to be a part of that guy's circle? Can you imagine the stories you could tell if you had the opportunity to meet him in his home for dinner?

Not hiring him cost the university millions of dollars. It was a mistake. But at least UT fell forward instead of hiring the Cincinnati guy. That would have been a major setback. This way we stay the course and position ourselves to persistently make mediocre-to-good hires.
